In 1905, when Richard E. Caldwell and A.Z. Richards founded a civil engineering and land-surveying firm in Salt Lake City, Utah, air travel was limited to the Wright brothers, cars were a novelty, and the first Winter Olympics were 20 years away. As one of the West's first civil engineering and land surveying firms, Caldwell Richards Sorensen provided vital infrastructure solutions for irrigation and drainage projects, roads and highways, water and sanitary sewer systems.

A century later the firm founded by Caldwell and Richards continues to provide answers to infrastructure for landmark projects including engineering consulting for the Light Rail Expansion into Davis County, the Legacy Parkway and land surveying for several venues of the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
