Relieve congestion of the intersection while improving safety for active transportation users. CRS designed unique slip ramp to seamlessly transition bike lanes onto multi-use path at roundabout.
The road improvement project realigned an offset intersection to a roundabout. The City did not want an overly large roundabout in their close- knit community. The roundabout was designed for passenger vehicles but can accommodate a WB-67 tractor-trailer as needed without requiring excessive ROW. Traffic calming measures implemented in the design maintained lower vehicle speeds without relying on ineffective speed limit signs. The design guides large tractor-trailers to slowly mount the truck ramp and traverse a gravel center island. Additional design features include bicycle slip ramps and pedestrian-friendly flashing beacons for each crosswalk to accommodate the nearby school. The roundabout was coordinated with forward-compatibility in mind, planning for the extension of multi-use trails, bicycle lanes, utility improvement projects, and meeting the city’s master plan.
