The Port of Muskogee was near capacity for what they could serve in their rail-served port and needed to expand their interchange yard. They also had a track on their industrial lead that could only accommodate 4-axle locomotives rather than currently used 6-axle locomotives. They needed assistance obtaining funding for their project and implementing solutions for expansion.

To help the Port of Muskogee expand the existing railroad infrastructure, CRS prepared a 10% design (final design is underway) and cost estimate to expand 9,700-LF of the Port’s mainline interconnect with the Union Pacific Railroad (UP). After preparing the preliminary plans, CRS assisted the city in applying for and obtaining a $12 Million BUILD grant. The expansion increased capacity and allowed access to UP Class I railroads for current and future industries, optimizing the marshaling yard’s trackage to accommodate volume expansion, including acceptance of unit trains into the Port. The design included one mainline power turnout, three hand-thrown turnouts, one at-grade state highway railroad crossing, and track rehabilitation. CRS prepared alternative designs for the Port to consider and worked with UP Engineering and Operations with input from ODOT to optimize operating plans.
